Nordhavn gets brand-new urban area

Sweco has been developer consultant to PFA since 2014 and planned the development of the approx. 55,000 m2 of residential and commercial buildings in close collaboration with the developer. Over the years, we have implemented invitations to tender for clean-up of soil-polluted building sites and for the local plan for the area.

We have also handled the architect competition for the distinctive round domicile building, Spidsen. Sweco is also the firm of engineers responsible for the Nordø infrastructure.

Five building plots for residential and commercial buildings on Nordø in Copenhagen

PFA is building a new urban area in Nordhavn, in the former Copenhagen Free Port. Nordø is connected to the rest of Nordhavn via two bridges. On the island, lanes will be constructed between the buildings, and a promenade will be created along the quayside all the way around the island.

At the tip of Nordø, a circular office building, Spidsen, will be built. This will be a spectacular building similar to the silos of Nordhavn and a landmark for Nordhavn. The cylindrical glass-covered building will have a very large inner conservatory with public access. In addition, two residential buildings will be constructed with a total of 115 owner-occupied flats as well as a hotel and another commercial building ‘Porten’ with steel façades and a green façade. These four buildings on the island will have façades in reddish shades that create cohesion with the blocks in the Aarhusgade district.

Developer consulting in all project stages

Sweco has been developer consultant to PFA since 2014 and has planned the development of the approx. 55,000 m2 of residential and commercial buildings in close collaboration with the developer. Over the years, we have implemented invitations to tender for clean-up of soil-polluted building sites and for the local plan for the area. We have also handled the architect competition for the distinctive round domicile building, Spidsen.

From 2020, Swecos has also handled the role of project and design-engineering manager, construction manager, occupational health and safety coordinator and commissioning manager for the developer. We are also responsible for developer supervision during the construction phase. We consequently still handle the developer’s interests during the construction phase as developer consultant, and several of our highly competent construction managers and tenant consultants are attached to the project.

In addition, Sweco is the firm of engineers responsible for the Nordø infrastructure. As developer consultants, we work with economic and risk management: We focus on schedules and conduct the day-to-day dialogue with the turnkey contractors at the building site. As the two commercial properties are let by PFA, we also have close collaboration with the tenants and their consultants as well as with the estate agents connected with Nordø.
