Copenhagen – Ringsted
Denmark’s first high-speed railway
The new Copenhagen-Ringsted high-speed railway is one of Denmark’s largest construction projects in recent times. The new track has been built for passenger train speeds of up to 250 km/h, making it Denmark’s first railway that can operate high-speed trains.

More departures and shorter travelling time
The new high-speed railway is the largest railway project seen in Denmark for over 60 years. It is 60 kilometres long and built for speeds of up to 250 km/h. The current line is one of the most widely used railway sections in Denmark, upon which thousands of commuters travel every day between the capital and the rest of Zealand. The segment is also a crucial element of nationwide and international rail traffic. The new high-speed railway will allow DSB to offer customers more train departures and shorter journey times.

Geotechnical and environmental feasibility studies
The project involved the construction of a new railway from Vigerslev near Copenhagen to Ringsted via Køge. Sweco has been a consultant to Banedanmark, and along with a number of other consultants, has assisted with feasibility studies, design and tendering of turnkey and main contracts for the construction of the railway line and two large station renovations in Vigerslev and Ringsted.
Sweco has been a consultant on the soil and environment contract, which included geotechnical and environmental feasibility studies and design of the construction work. The latter included modelling the track embankment, ditches and deployment areas and design for drainage, geoengineering, environmental engineering, track support and noise shields. Sweco also assisted with developer supervision in a number of disciplines and regulatory management in relation to the environment. A key element of the project has been 3D modelling. Through 3D design, Sweco has helped fulfil Banedanmark’s vision for the project.
