Clean water and sewerage services are essential for the continued growth of cities and society in the future. Sweco's experts ensure that water and sewerage treatment systems supply clean water and they deal with the waste water discharged by thousands of people each day. We always include an integrated approach and ensure that economic considerations, the environment and people are taken into account.

Groundwater, mapping and planning

Water is one of the most vital natural resources in the world and we are completely dependent on its quality. In a sustainable society, we must use water resources carefully. Sweco helps to future-proof Denmark's drinking water by protecting groundwater resources.

Sweco conducts surveys to protect groundwater and surface water. We study how water conditions are altered by construction and infrastructure projects. We also carry out Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and implement planning tasks aimed at sustainable groundwater use.

Sweco uses geological and hydraulic modelling and geographical information systems (GIS) to visualise water flows under different circumstances. In addition we map out the geological layering of the earth, the chemical properties of the water and current land use. We then compare these data to information from other mapping processes. This gives us an overview of the threats and provides a reliable decision-making basis for prioritising various protective measures.

Sweco has experts in a wide range of technical fields, which ensures a long-term, targeted and cost-effective protection effort.

Sweco can assist in:

  • Protecting groundwater resources
  • Identifying and interpreting the information required
  • Modelling surface water and groundwater, as well as interaction
  • Putting adaptation to climate change into perspective in relation to preferences for future land use and groundwater quality
  • Preparing EIA reports and developing water-supply plans
  • Providing a reliable decision-making basis for an effective long-term water-protection effort
