Infrastructure

A key element in a city’s attractiveness is the ability of its residents to travel safely and efficiently. Sweco’s infrastructure experts have what it takes to design transport systems that simplify people’s everyday lives. By designing everything from transportation hubs, roads for both cars and bicycles, railways and subways to bridges, tunnels, ports and marinas, we improve accessibility in tomorrow’s communities and cities.

Ports and Marine Engineering

Safe, efficient ports are essential for a modern sustainable infrastructure. Sweco has one of the strongest teams of experts in the sector and provides advisory services on quay structures, piers and breakwaters. Sweco’s consultancy covers all phases of the project from conceptual design, feasibility studies, detailed design, preparation of tender documents, and operation and maintenance.

Sweco plans and designs all types of port facilities, such as ferry terminals, commercial ports, container terminals, marinas and fishing ports. Sweco also provides advice on coastal protection, sediment transport, dredging and reclamation and the establishment of coastal landfills for contaminated sediment. Sweco uses advanced numerical modelling and simulation as an integrated part of the services. Sweco carries out Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and handles comprehensive authority processing through all phases. Sweco provides advisory services on urban development of previous industrial port areas as well.

Sweco can assist in:

  • Planning, site survey and geotechnical investigations and feasibility studies, including conceptual design, audit of port structure condition and Environmental Impact Assessment
  • Design of port extensions, rehabilitation of existing ports, and coastal protection projects
  • Operation and maintenance
  • Numerical modelling and simulation
  • Urban development of former commercial harbour areas
  • Coastal landfills
