Building contamination

Sweco can assist in identifying and dealing with building contamination in an environmentally and financially sound manner.

In the past, hazardous substances such as asbestos, heavy metals, PAH and PCB were used in a lot of the preferred building materials, which is why these substances are found in many old buildings. The law stipulates that these substances must be sorted out. They can also pose a risk to builders and contractors who must handle and dispose of the contaminated materials.

Sweco has amassed vast experience in investigating and dealing with contaminated buildings in Denmark. We provide advice and suggest methods and solutions that are sustainable – environmentally, financially and in terms of human health.

Sweco can assist in:

  • Making initial studies and screenings
  • Obtaining detailed assessments and specifications of volumes/quantities
  • Drafting work descriptions for handling and disposal
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory OHS requirements
  • Carrying out design engineering and tendering of environmental remediation and demolition
  • Conducting indoor-climate investigations to find mould, asbestos, PCB, etc.
  • DGNB certification studies
  • Identifying radon leakage
  • Remediation of PCB, mould, sewer smell, etc., in the air inside a building
