DuPont has been located at its Grindsted site since 1924 and currently manufactures ingredients for the food and feed industries, and, to a lesser extent, products for technical use in the plastics industry, etc. In addition, the company produces pharmaceutical products used in, among other things, sleeping medicines and anti-epileptic drugs. DuPont has its own facility for treating process waste water, as well as a boiler system with a primed output of 57 MW.

The EIA report covers all of the planned enlargements/changes throughout the company in the period 2015–2020. The planned enlargements/changes include the establishment of a new pharmaceutical production line, the modification of fermentation processes, as well as an enlargement of the production of emulsifiers, ascorbyl palmitate and Natamax. A new spraying tower and fluid bed will be established and various tank yards, etc., will be enlarged. The boiler system’s main boiler will be modified for firing wholly or partly with wood chips, and a closed wood-chip storage facility and stock of finished goods will be constructed.

DuPont is a large multinational corporation that needs space for enlargements and changes to the production process to respond to a dynamic market. For this reason, an “accommodating” EIA was drafted where the environmental impact of all the company's enlargements planned for the future was assessed at the same time. This reduces the time spent by the company and authorities in relation to carrying out an EIA of the individual enlargements/modifications later on. The drafting of an accommodating EIA requires close dialogue with the company and authorities to determine which projects are relevant to include in the EIA report.
