Svanemøllen Station is a local traffic hub in Copenhagen’s Østerbro district. Unsatisfactory, out-of-date spatial conditions prompted a project for the refurbishment of the forecourt and the bicycle parking areas at Svanemøllen Station.
The purpose of the refurbishment was to create improved access conditions from bus stops, etc., establish better bicycle parking options, and establish a new forecourt free of bicycles, enabling free movement and stopovers.
The proposal creates a simple, well-organised urban space with clearly marked zones for pedestrians and cyclists respectively. Flexible parking for up to 800 bicycles and an open forecourt which enables the station building to manifest itself as an active feature of the urban landscape. Svanemøllen Station is upgraded to a smoothly flowing, easily accessible and attractive urban space.
The site is designed to interact with the planned bicycle track the “Svanemølle Route” which will link up with the station area.
